Hidden Bushwalks in the Blue Mountains

Discover Secret Trails and Quiet Escapes Near Glen Isla

When most visitors think of the Blue Mountains, they picture the iconic Three Sisters or the bustling trails of Wentworth Falls and Katoomba. But beyond the popular lookouts lies a different side of the mountains—quiet bushwalks, peaceful escarpments, and secret tracks where you’ll often have the path to yourself.

At Glen Isla, located in the heart of Wentworth Falls, we love pointing our guests toward lesser-known walks where the sounds of lyrebirds replace the noise of crowds. If you're looking to step off the beaten track and into nature’s quiet corners, here are some of our favourite hidden bushwalks in the Blue Mountains.

🌿 1. Gladstone Lookout via Goat Track (Leura)

This unofficial trail leads from the back streets of Leura to a dramatic and uncrowded cliff-top lookout. The Gladstone Lookout offers panoramic views over the Jamison Valley, and the path itself winds through beautiful sandstone and eucalypt forest.

Tip: Bring a map or GPS app—this one isn’t signposted, and that’s part of its charm.

🌳 2. Murphys Fire Trail (Wentworth Falls)

This wide, peaceful trail leads through quiet bushland to sweeping valley views. It’s ideal for walking, jogging, or even cycling. There’s no formal lookout platform, just open escarpments, birdlife, and big skies.

Start from: The end of West Street in Wentworth Falls.

🍃 3. Dantes Glen and Fairy Falls (North Lawson)

Often overlooked in favour of South Lawson’s waterfall circuit, this loop walk leads through dense ferns, mossy rock walls, and a magical rainforest atmosphere. Two small waterfalls and a sense of total seclusion make this one of the best short hidden walks.

Best after rain, and ideal in summer for its shaded coolness.

🌱 4. Victoria Falls Track (Mount Victoria)

This walk descends deep into the valley below Mount Victoria, finishing at the spectacular Victoria Falls—a waterfall that’s far less known than others in the region. It’s a challenging return walk, but worth it for those who want a proper adventure.

Good to know: Bring plenty of water and be prepared for the climb back up.

🪨 5. Aqua Creek Track (Blackheath)

Hidden within the Grand Canyon precinct, this quieter trail offers rainforest gullies, rock overhangs, and access to the base of Rodriguez Pass. You’ll often have it all to yourself, even on weekends.

Tip: Combine it with nearby walks for a full day of exploring the Grose Valley.

🌲 6. Nature Track to Lillian’s Glen (Wentworth Falls / Conservation Hut)

This lesser-walked loop near the Conservation Hut takes you through lush rainforest, stone steps, and tranquil creek crossings. You’ll find Lillian’s Glen and Empress Canyon, where glow worms sometimes appear after dusk.

Great for: Nature photographers and couples looking for a romantic bush escape.
