Planning a nature-filled escape from Sydney? With crisp mountain air, world-class views, and charming villages, the Blue Mountains is one of NSW’s top weekend getaway destinations—just 90 minutes from the city. As a local who grew up here, I’ve crafted the perfect two-night itinerary to help you relax, explore and eat well while staying at our beautiful guesthouse, Glen Isla.
Leave Sydney behind and head west along the upgraded M4 for an easy drive to Wentworth Falls. If you can leave work a little early, you’ll beat the traffic and arrive in time to settle into Glen Isla—a beautifully restored 1885 homestead offering luxury accommodation for up to 12 guests.
With 6 spacious bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, multiple living spaces, fireplace, outdoor cubby house for the kids, and half an acre of private gardens, Glen Isla is your perfect Blue Mountains base.
Start your weekend with a drink on the verandah or a stroll through our heritage garden. Then choose how you’d like to dine:
Gia Café & Bistro (Leura) – Stylish and seasonal modern Australian food, great for indoor/outdoor dining.
Polar Bear of Leura Pizza – A local favourite for wood-fired pizzas, perfect for a relaxed evening.
Prefer to stay in? Order delivery from La Famiglia, our go-to for great local pizza and pasta.

Enjoy a peaceful morning coffee on Glen Isla's verandah, surrounded by lush greenery and the calming quiet of our tranquil garden.
Morning: Visit the Three Sisters & Echo Point
No trip to the Mountains is complete without seeing the Three Sisters at Echo Point. Arrive early to beat the crowds and enjoy a short walk to the lookout. For more adventure, take the Giant Stairway bushwalk or hop on the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus to see more attractions around Katoomba and Leura.
Late Morning: Scenic World
Next, head to Scenic World for unforgettable views. Ride the Scenic Railway (the steepest in the world!), float over the valley in the Skyway, or explore the rainforest boardwalks. It’s a family favourite for good reason.
Leura Gourmet – Enjoy salads, sandwiches and freshly made meals with beautiful views and a relaxed vibe.
Leura Chinese Restaurant – Cosy, authentic and generous. Great for eat-in or takeaway, with BYO options.
Afternoon:
Return to Glen Isla for some well-earned downtime. Read a book by the fire, play a game of pool, or relax in the sun in our private gardens.
Mr Collins of Leura – A sleek, modern venue with beautifully presented dishes and excellent service.
Jiggle Korean BBQ – Great for groups, this interactive dining experience is fun and delicious.
The Bunker Leura – Stylish and contemporary with a seasonal menu and cocktails. Book ahead!
Early Morning:
Take in the quiet magic of the mountains with a morning walk to Wentworth Falls, just 200m from Glen Isla’s front gate. The lookout provides breathtaking views, and keen walkers can loop around via the Valley of the Waters trail.
Breakfast:
Cap off your weekend with a hearty breakfast at:
Conservation Hut Café – Right at the trailhead, this bush café offers big breakfasts and milkshakes for the kids.
Gia Café & Bistro – Also great for breakfast if you missed it earlier in the trip!
